Cloth Choice

One of the key factors in selecting the most appropriate cloth is the weather. If held in a cooler environment or time of the year, we guide grooms and wedding guests towards a tweed fabric as this will absorb the heat rather than reflect it. Matt cloth is also richer in colour and doesn’t reflect light, so it will always look amazing in photographs.

With the last season of Peaky Blinders aired earlier last year, we have seen a surge in orders for tweed fabrics. We anticipate that this recent trend will grow further in 2023/2024. Of course, if you still want a tweed creation for your summer wedding, that’s no problem. You can opt-in for a textured statement waistcoat, underneath a lighter fabric jacket. This will still give that artisan, high-end, British look without sacrificing comfort.

Perfect for a sunny summer wedding we would suggest a lighter and more vibrant fabric giving a more casual look. Easy to dress up or dress down depending on your individual desires.

Colour and Design

In terms of colour, if the wedding has a theme  – we would suggest you bring a couple of pictures/fabric swatches (if you have them) to your local ETCH Specialist. This is always a great starting point for any ETCH appointment and can help them guide you in the right direction. When in doubt, a lighter grey is always a good option – try not to go too light as this may wash out your complexion. A navy suit will always be a no-brainer. It is versatile, looks sharp and flatters all skin complexions.

While grey and navy are always good options and can be used for later events (even work), a different direction that is popular this year, are shades of red. A deep maroon, aubergine or rich burgundy is a subtle statement you can make, while still looking suave and sophisticated.

The check is a very on trend design, the bolder, the better seems to be a current theme. This is a classic look that has grown and become more contemporary with exciting base colours and vivid overchecks. A check 2-piece suit also pairs well with a plain contrast waistcoat or vice versa, perfect for matching grooms and groomsmen.

A traditional three-piece suit will always be the most popular option for a wedding. The ETCH program gives your creation an enhanced fit compared to the ‘off the peg’ suits - satisfying anyone's requirements. Whether you want a standard fitting suit, or want to make adjustments for a slimmer or easier fitting suit.

The waistcoat is always a great accessory to any suit. When it gets too hot, people tend to take their jackets off and having a waistcoat ensure that you will continue to look sharp.

One of the more popular styles of waistcoats we’ve seen is a double-breasted waistcoat. This offers another dimension to your look when paired with a nice single-breasted jacket.
